Here at The Pigeon Note we like anything bird related so new band Professor Penguin were already in favour before even listening to their music. The creative egg of Londoner Jonny Abraham, Professor Penguin has now become a flock of young musicians, a band of nine producing diverse and energetic performances. Their debut album Planes is set for release early this year and by the sounds of the first single Pilot we are in for a treat. Pilot has already recieved airplay from the likes of Lauren Laverne and Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music, Jon Kennedy on XFM and Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio1.
‘This is your first goal and the start of your life’, sings Abraham in his soothing laid back style. Mechanical flitters break out to contrast with the vocals and the song gathers depth with solemn horns. A sombre vocal melody carries the song to its finish making Pilot feel like the soundtrack to a sad ending. The Pilot single EP is available for free download from www.professorpenguin.co.uk which includes a number of remixes.
